Kathryn Mitchell has set an Australian javelin record for the second time in a month.
The Ballarat Olympian exceeded her own national women’s mark by throwing 68.57 metres at the Victoriuan Track and Field Championships in Melbourne on Saturday.
Mitchell early last month threw 67.58m at a Ringwood meet – passing Kim Mickle’s 66.83 set in 2014.
Mitchell’s career-best form comes as she prepares for her fourth Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast next month.
She has never been better placed to medal at the Commonwealth Games.
The 35-year-old finished sixth in in Melbourne in 2006, fifth in 2010 and fourth in 2014.
She is also a two-time Olympian, having been ninth in London in 2012 and sixth in Rio de Janierro two years ago.
Her other accolades include being a four-time Ballarat Sportswoman of the Year.
